Jace mind sculptor why so good
Yes, again I struggled to compete with the Bloodbraid Elf decks. A deck like Taking Turns comes to mind as a potential home for the card. A Sultai Midrange deck could have some potential. After trying my own Grixis build, and the most interesting Jace deck list I found, I decided to message an old friend of mine, Jonathan Rossum.
This is the deck list he sent me, which is pretty stock but removes some of the clunkier cards for a few Jaces. I was expecting to really like this deck, but I had the same old problem I had with other Jace decks. Bloodbraid Elf decks were everywhere, and they were tough to keep up with.
I was often off-balance, spending my early turns casting Serum Visions to find lands, or staring down a Tarmogoyf with a Path to Exile and being forced to the decision of whether to ramp my opponent into Bloodbraid Elf or not. I found myself losing long games to planeswalkers. You should instead wait until you can gain control and protect it. When that happens, Jace usually does run away with the game, though. Cheap removal backed up by counter magic and Snapcaster Mage is a good recipe for sticking a planeswalker and running away with the game.
Runed Halo got worse for a couple of reasons. However, I don't think something is healthy if that health is getting poor quite regularly. If that were a person I would still consider them in need of treatment. So, this begs the question, am I happy with a Jace unban? I am, actually. I am personally just fine with the fact that this sticks a wrench in the works and forces people out of their comfortable little zones.
I'm the kind of person that likes to see things shaken up. That's why I'm loving Standard right now. It's in such a state of flux that you can tell the players who are enjoying the game apart from the players who are too competitive to have any fun.
Okay, you want to play your Izzet deck. That's cool. But do you really think you'll get away with being the only guy with a two-of or three-of of Jace in a competitive top-tier tournament? You better be sideboarding in something like Lightning Bolt , Vraska's Contempt , or similar spells in case someone decides to get theirs out too.
And if it's a Simic deck you're against, you better think about mainboarding that Bolt. It forces that critical and creative thinking and I absolutely love that. But what I am not okay with is saying that Jace is what made Modern unwell. In my opinion, most formats aren't doing that great right now, with exception to Limited, Draft, and Commander.
So what do you think? To slow down that category of combo decks as a whole and give opponents more time to set up interactive plays in the early game, Simian Spirit Guide is banned. This is a list of artists who have contributed art to the game of Magic: The Gathering.
While 25 artists contributed art to the original Alpha Magic set, different artists illustrated Magic cards through Shards of Alara. Why is Jace the Mind Sculptor so good? How much is Jace the Mind Sculptor worth? How could we make a Jace that stood out from Lorwyn 's Jace Beleren yet delivered on what our players loved about Jace?
In addition to the task of focusing Worldwake on a single Jace Planeswalker from a game design perspective, we were working with the Creative team to make this new Jace awesome. Much like the selection of Nicol Bolas to headline Conflux , we specifically chose Jace as we were developing him to be a key Planeswalker when working to achieve the brand's franchise and media ambitions.
Originally, we had planned the Planeswalker focus with Future Sight as detailed in Mark Rosewater's column here , and now that Planeswalkers had become a reality, we knew we needed to do star building for our Planeswalkers. Introducing Planeswalkers as powerful focal points of major set releases was the path forward to put our Planeswalkers front and center in people's minds when they thought about Magic.
I spoke with Ken Nagle, the design team lead for Worldwake , about Jace and what his team worked on for Jace before handing it off to my final design team. We wanted a four-ability planeswalker that could somehow combo with itself. I knew he would be put through the ringer in final design and playtesting but tried to capture Jace's essence.
Jace, up to that point, was milling opponents to death, so we made sure he could do that. Also, I made that mind wipe ultimate since that's what he does to his teacher, Alhammarret, in Magic story. We knew he was an important card to the set as the only Planeswalker, so we didn't hold back. Each player draws that many cards. For each Magic set, we would conduct a rare poll to get feedback from all the Magic players at Wizards. From that rare poll, it was clear that the Jace above, while reasonable, wasn't hitting all the aspirations we had for him.
